I guess you could say I am the bookie, at least that is what Dr. Witter called me. My sweet dog, Sam and I love to come to work and see all our friends. Jessica and Dr. Newman make it a fun place to work. Sometimes heart breaking, but a good feeling at the end of the day- knowing we are doing the best that we possibly can for our patients.
My husband and I have Sam, Noble BOAZ our wonder horse and 2 rescue kitties named Thelma and Louie, all live on a farm in SpotsylvaniaCounty. I love to create all kinds of things. I love to paint and do crafts. I Love road trips, spending time with family, friends and working in my yard.
I have had the privilege of working with Dr. Witter for many years. In the early 80's I worked for Doc and Dr. Dunlap. What a pair, I can't remember them ever having a disagreement. When the time came for Doc to slow down, he had a lot offers, none of which he would even consider. He was just physically unable to work so hard and be here so much. He wanted his CRAH family taken care of, which consists of 20 employees at any given time, for almost 50 years. Second was his client family, he wanted a human to answer all phone calls not a machine, and someone on the other end of the line that truly cared and would do whatever it took to take the best care of their wants and needs for each pet. He felt he had an obligation to the history of his practice. Fortunately, the buyers came from within, groomed by Dr. Witter himself. Dr. Newman and Jessica put it all on the line to carry on the tradition of treating all pets as if they were our own, and all clients and employees as family. Come on by and let me show why I am so proud to be a small part of Confederate Ridge Animal Hospital.

For as long as I can remember I have had a love for animals. There is something so special about the connection and unconditional love that they give to us. I have always wanted to work with animals and things all fell into place for me when I moved to Fredericksburg from Pittsburgh, PA in 2009. Shortly thereafter I began my career at Confederate Ridge Animal Hospital. I immediately fell in love with the work, staff, and of course all our furry clients! I felt at home here at Confederate Ridge Animal Hospital from the second I started, and I knew this was the place for me. I truly enjoy coming to work everyday and being able to be around our amazing clients and staff! I feel truly blessed to LOVE what I do every day. When I'm not at work, I love spending time with my husband, Chris and our two children, Kennedy and Gunnar. Our daughter, Kennedy is very active in gymnastics and we love watching her any chance we get. Our son Gunnar is all boy and enjoys playing outside and anything to do with superheroes 😊 We have 3 dogs, Colby, Rooney, and McCutchen and 2 cats, Kladah and Finn who we love to snuggle. We love spending time with friends and family and of course anything Pittsburgh! Thank you so much for choosing us to care for your furry family. I promise to give them extra love and snuggles and treat them as if they were my own!
Jessica StrongReceptionist & LVT Student
Welcome to Confederate Ridge Animal Hospital, My name is Jessica Strong. I was born in Northern Virginia but that never stopped my family and I from loving and having animals. My mother bred and trained Labrador Retrievers for field trails, so dogs have been apart of my life ever since I can remember. We moved to Spotsylvania after I finished elementary school and throughout the years, my love for animals grew even more. We moved onto a farm where I was able to get my own horse and that sparked a passion to work with horses.
Throughout high school I worked on a few farms training horses and hunting dogs. Shortly after graduating high school in 2011, I started working at Confederate Ridge as a kennel assistant caring for our boarding pets. I stayed at that position for about 5 years then was asked to also be a receptionist. In addition to a receptionist, I am cross trained as a doctor’s assistant.
When I’m not working, I am either riding horses, fishing, kayaking and loving on my two cats. Working at Confederate Ridge has given me the opportunity to expand my knowledge in all areas of small animal care and I am proud to say I am an employee here. I could not imagine a life without working with animals. I plan to further my education to become a licensed veterinary technician.
As a native of Fredericksburg, Confederate Ridge Animal Hospital has taken care of all my animals since I was a child. I had both dogs & cats growing up as well as horses and Dr. Witter was their vet. As an adult my passion for cats grew and most people know me as the crazy cat lady! I owned The Cats Closet, a cat lovers emporium, for 27 years. After 'retiring' I realized I missed being around people who loved animals as much as I did and I was fortunate to become a part of the CRAH family that I already knew & loved. I enjoy coming to work every day and being around dogs & cats as well as their owners & our staff. You couldn't ask for a better place to work or bring your fur child. We treat every pet like they were our own.
I've been married to my husband Chuck for 30 years. Little did he know when I told him 'Love Me, Love My Cat' what that would evolve into! When I'm not working I enjoy volunteering with the cat rescue Operation Hood, going to the beach, VT football games, horseback riding and spending time with friends, family & my cats!
Receptionist at Confederate Ridge Animal Hospital since 1999!
My name is Shannon, I started working at CRAH in February of 2017. This has been by far been my favorite job. When I'm not at work I'm typically just out with friends, doing karaoke, trying to find new places to explore or at home hanging out with my pup Murphy, who is an 8yr old Yorkipoo. I've always loved animals but I didn't get my first dog until I was 14 which is my dog Murphy. I've always been really excited for when I'm older so that way I can have my own animals, especially rescues. I'd also really love to foster some animals when I'm older. I can't wait to expand my fur family as the years go on and to bring them here where everyone is treated like family. You really couldn't ask for a better group of people to help take care of your pets!
